Frequently Asked Questions

What is Music Therapy?

According to the AMTA, music therapy is the clinical & evidence-based use of music interventions to accomplish individualized goals within a therapeutic relationship. Our music therapists work within a variety of classroom settings to support students from preschool to age 22.

What is considered the GLOW region?

The GLOW region is an acronym for the four-county area we service in: Genesee, Livingston, Orleans and Wyoming counties.

What services do you provide?

We currently provide individual, group, and consultation services with contracted school districts. These services will be added to your child’s IEP, if services are deemed appropriate after a formal assessment process.

How can my child receive music therapy services?

First, a referral must be made on behalf of your child. This can come from a parent, teacher, other related service member, or any other related school personnel.

Once a referral has been made, one of our music therapist will then begin the process of a formal assessment. A student qualifies for music therapy services when the student performs 25% higher in the music setting in comparison to a non-music setting (e.g., classroom).

If you have any specific questions about our assessment process, please reach out to Jennifer Glor at jglor@musictherapypathways.com
